Friendshop FAQ
2012-2013
What is Friendshop?
Friendshop is a family fun enrichment night program that is run at our local East Lansing Public Library. It is run completely by MSU volunteer students. Friendshop offers themed activity nights one night during each month during the semester, with past themes ranging from sign language, to literacy, to science, and to global awareness.
How do I sign-up?
You can sign up at College Colloquium in Erickson Hall, at Sparticipation, or at one of our informational meetings (dates TBD later on in the semester).
What if I have a friend who is not an education major….are they able to participate in Friendshop?
Of course! All we require is a love and willingness to work with children.
Can I choose to come to any of the activity Friendshop nights?
We try to keep the “drop-ins” to a minimum. Each activity night will have 1-2 required informational meetings beforehand, and we request that all volunteers sign in at the library so that we can chart your volunteer hours should you need experience working with children. However, if you are unable to make our meetings but would still like to volunteer, we would love to have you join us!
I really want to participate in Friendshop, but I don’t have a car…can I still do it?
Yes!!! Friendshop is at the East Lansing Public Library, which is on one of our local CATA bus routes. Also, many of the coordinators/upperclassmen have cars on campus. While you are ultimately responsible for your own transportation, we strongly encourage carpooling at all of our meetings, and can also answer questions about how to access the library by CATA bus.
Do I really need to attend if I sign up?
Yes! Take a look at your schedule before committing to Friendshop!! FRIENDSHOP IS A COMMITMENT! THE CHILDREN AND THE COORDINATORS ARE COUNTING ON YOUR BEING THERE IF YOU SIGN UP! We can’t have the wonderful programs that we do each month without your support!
